The ceiling lift may be just what you need for a bohemian style. Or if you just want to relax at the beach, or at least feel like you are. The reason doesn’t matter, the truth is the same anyway. You are interested in ceiling slings.
There are several different types of ceiling hanging chairs, but the way they are installed is very similar. So, before we move on to where to buy a sling, let’s understand what a sling is.
What Is a Ceiling Chair?
A chair hanging from the ceiling is just that. A chair dangling from the ceiling. However, this ceiling can be a porch, a patio, or your living room. Ceiling chairs can be hung anywhere there is a place to put them.
The chairs themselves are inspired by the beach and bohemian décor. They have a spiritual connection that provides peace to those who seek the tranquility they can provide. Does this sound like you?
Types of Ceiling Chair
Now that you know you’re interested in ceiling hanging chairs, you might be wondering about the different types you can choose from. There are several different types of chairlifts that can be considered ceiling lifts.
Artificial sling chairs
This type of sling chair is usually equipped with a base for hanging the chair. It doesn’t actually hang from the ceiling unless you remove the base and hang it yourself. This is great for those who want to move their chairs around frequently.
Bubble sling
Bubble sling chairs are usually made of some kind of plastic. They look like bubbles and are usually transparent. However, cushions are placed inside to provide a comfortable place to relax. These bubble chairs are common in teen rooms.
Pod chairlifts
A pod lift should not be confused with a bubble lift. The pod chair is usually made of canvas or similar material and is almost completely enclosed. They are designed to provide a dark space for relaxation.
Hammock hanging chair
This is the main type of sling chair that we mentioned today. Hammock hammocks are made of ropes or other hammock material. They are not always hammock shapes as it is the material from which hammock slingers are made.
Tree sling
Tree hanging chairs were originally made for camping. They are suspended from trees, are usually weatherproof, and are made of the same type of material as tents. They can be hung from trees and can be easily moved.
Wicker sling chair
The wicker sling chair is made of wicker and is quite sturdy. They have a specific design style and are very unique. They don’t look like any other type of ceiling chair and are defined by wicker.
How to Hang a Hammock Chair?
In order to hang a hammock chair, you only need two things. A hammock chair and a hardware kit. Hopefully, this chair comes with a kit. But if not, then you can quickly head to the hardware store and make it yourself.
What you’ll need:
- 3/8-inch eye-screwed screws with at least 4-inch tread and a minimum capacity of 300 pounds
- Two quick link chain connectors or locking carabiners, each supporting at least 300 pounds
- Galvanized chains at least a few feet long
Now, if you’re lucky, there’s a note on your chair. But if not, you can follow these simple steps to hang the chair.
Step 1: Locate the joists
This is much easier if you hang the chair on a porch where you can see the joists. But if not, you can use the stud finder to find the stud. Make sure the studs are 2 x 6 or larger, as 2×4 may not be able to support the swing.
Make sure to mark both sides of the joist as you want the swing to be centered for the strongest fixation. You’ll need a place that’s at least a few feet away from each wall so you don’t hit the wall when you swing.
Step 2: Create the pilot hole and install the screws
Drill a pilot hole about 3 inches deep in the mark made for the center of the joist. Importantly, the drill you use is narrower than the screws used for swinging.
Generally, the screw size is about 3/8 inch. Therefore, the best size for a drill bit is 5/16 inch. Once the pilot hole has been drilled, you can screw the eye screws in. This is where the carabiner hooks.
You may need to use a screwdriver to help tighten it. Make sure it goes as deep into the ceiling as possible, covering the entire pedal.
Step 3: Install the carabiner and chain
Attach the chain to the carabiner or hook, then attach the carabiner to the eye screws. Then, attach another carabiner to the swing. The way you do this depends on the type of swing you’re using.
The chain then needs to be attached to the swing at the appropriate length. If you plan to move the swing in the future, cut off the excess chain or hang it on the top carabiner. If not, cut it out and enjoy!
Is the Ceiling Lift Right for Me?
There are several reasons not to buy a sling. The main reason not to buy them is because you don’t like the way they look. But this is obvious. There have also been reports of swings causing motion sickness.
These cases, although few, are worth considering. Just make sure you have a warranty or return policy in case you encounter this issue yourself. Other than that, we have only good news!
As long as your swing is to your liking and is properly installed, there are only advantages to the ceiling lift. These chairs have a lot more to offer than they get. What are you waiting for?
